Most of the ghost stories in A Light in the Dark are based on true encounters. At my first book signing, the more people I talked to, the more ghost stories I heard. Everyone seems to have an experience, or at least know someone who has, and it was really interesting to hear all of the different ways people have been touched by the paranormal.
