BLURB

He’s her rock star crush and he’s offering to make all her dreams come true...

Rock star Malcolm Strong is used to being in control. Of the band. Of his feelings. Of the woman he has tied to his bed. He never gets close enough to get hurt. He never wants to.

Until Lacey. The sassy brunette is working on the band’s latest music video. Which means he shouldn’t be picturing her naked. Spread eagle. Screaming his name. He doesn’t mix business and pleasure, but there’s something about her quick wit and her soft curves--

Mal has to have her.

Lacey Waltz is dreaming. That’s the only explanation for a six foot three, inked up, rock star s*x god offering to be her f-buddy. And not just any rock star. Mal. The guy with the piercing blue eyes and the breathy, tortured voice. The guy who’s poster hung on her dorm room wall for three years straight. The guy she thinks about every night when she… ahem.

Friends with benefits sounds perfect. The last thing Lacey needs is more heartbreak. But how is she supposed to be casual with the man she’s been fantasizing about for the last four years?

EXCERPTS

#1

"Mal…" She looks up at me, her expression needy. "I… I'm not stupid. I know you want me. And you know I want you."

I nod.

"And, I get that you don't have relationships. Right now… everything with Adam. It's messy. I don't want messy again. We work together. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I won't give up this job for anything."

"You don't want to fuck me?"

"God, no." Her fingers dig into my arms. "I do. I want to be fucked so badly." Her cheeks flush. "I shouldn't have said that."

I shake my head. "I fucking love that you said that."

"I want you, Mal. God… I've… last night… so many nights. But I can't lose this job."

"The job is yours. I don't go back on my word."

"What if this gets messy?"

"It's still yours." I drag my fingers through her hair. "We can wait until after the shoot."

All the happiness in her expression drains. "That's far away. Could be a month. Or two."

Fuck, the need in her voice calls all my attention. "I don't want complicated, but I want you. I can't fucking remember the last time I liked someone."

"Like high school like? You like like me?"

"Yeah." It's probably been since high school. "I want this to be a regular thing. I want to show you so much fucking pleasure." I drag my fingers through her hair. "But you have to understand. There are no strings here. The second either one of us wants to walk, it's over."

"Okay."

"The second this gets complicated, that one of us develops feelings—"

"It's over?"

I nod. "Yeah."

She stares back at me. "No harem?"

"Just you."

"Just me?"

"Yeah." Fuck, I can't believe it either. I've never had an exclusive fuck buddy. But now is the time. I don't want to break any more hearts. This is less complicated.

Easier.

Better.

"How long?" she asks.

"Until we leave for our US tour in October."

"Two months?"

"Or until one of us wants to walk."

She lets out a soft murmur as she leans into my touch.

"What do you say, Lacey? You want to be my one and only fuck buddy?"

#2

He smiles. "It's good."

"Good?"

"You're not going to like this."

"I can tell."

He stares back into my eyes. "I'm not into movies."

Not. Into. Movies.

What.

What the actual fuck?

"Who isn't into movies?" I ask.

He shrugs. "TV either. I like watching with people, but I don't get into it."

"But… you do read."

He nods.

"You do like stories?"

Again, he nods.

"How can you not like movies? That's… that's like not liking breathing."

He laughs, not a chuckle but an actual laugh, as he turns to the now boiling water and breaks pasta into it. "Is it as serious as that?"

"Worse. At least they have oxygen tanks. They have medical interventions for people who don't appreciate breathing." I slide off my stool. "I'm not saying you need to like sci-fi, or drama, or romantic comedies, or even Jurassic Park."

He cocks a brow aren't you?

"Okay, only a psychopath doesn't like Jurassic Park, but we can come back to that." I stare back at Mal. "Do you really not like any movies? At all?"

"I like them fine—"

"But???"

He laughs. "You've really never met someone who doesn't like movies?"

"Not someone who took it upon himself to hire a music video director. Not someone who's also an artist, a writer. A storyteller. Mal, each of your albums has this emotional arc. Maybe it's not a literal narrative, but it's a story."

He stirs the pasta. His eyes go to mine. "Why do I feel like you're up to something?"

"We need to watch some movies today."

"We do?"

I nod. "At least three. All day."

"Forcing me to watch movies is what's going to change my mind?"

"What if I bribe you?"

"I'm listening."

"Make an offer."

He smiles. "I already got a lot of what I want from you."

My cheeks flush.

"What three movies?"

"Are there any movies you ever liked?"

"I haven't been keeping track. Ethan lives and dies for monster movies. You must have seen the way his eyes lit up with your pitch."

I nod like I wasn't too distracted by Mal to notice anyone else. "So you've seen a lot of those?"

"Yeah."

"And?"

"They're fine."

"Okay, no creature features. Is he into anything else?"

"He and Vi used to watch a lot of sci-fi together. But mostly TV. Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica."

"And it was a no go?"

"It's fine."

"Give me a little rope here, Mal."

He smiles. "It's more fun torturing you."

"What about Joel?"

"He likes 80s stuff. Action movies. Fuck, he and Bella wouldn't stop watching Harry Potter every time she visited."

"Don't tell me you fail to appreciate the world of Hogwarts."

"At best, I get a C-."

I laugh. A joke from Mal is a rare treasure. I want to wrap it in gold foil paper and keep it in my pocket. "Okay, what about the brooding one?"

"You don't know Kit's name?"

"I do, but I figured the word association would help. Does he like stuff like The Road?"

"The what?"

"Malcolm Strong!"

He laughs. "You need to update your references."

"You do know it."

"I don't live in a cave."

"Well, what's he like?"

"Legal thrillers."

"And you?"

"I don't mind them." He smiles, reveling in the frustration spreading over my expression. "You really are fucking adorable."

"You're not going to be laughing when you're stuck watching three movies you don't like."

"What about when you're coming in my lap with movies in the background?"

Ahem. I sidestep the comment. It's the only way to keep my wits about me. "Do you want to help me at all?"

"No."

"I'll get you back for this."

"Baby, you sure you want to start a war with me?"

I bite my lip. "Maybe."

"Bullshit, maybe."

I shrug, utterly effortless.

He smiles. "Bullshit."

Total bullshit.

I smile back anyway.
