GUEST POST
One of my favourite songs is called Ordinary Day by Nick Lachey. It’s about someone he has lost that he’ll never see again and how he wished he could have told them things but now he can’t. The chorus is how if he had a wish he wouldn’t want fortune, fame or power just another day with this person.
It’s such a heartfelt song and brings home to me how much we need to treasure those around us and what we have in our life at this moment.
Everyone is so busy wishing for this and wishing for that, that sometimes we forget to stop and think and be grateful for what we have right now. It’s only when we lose someone that we realise how precious life is and how much we sometimes take it for granted.
Of course everyone looks to the future, we all need to make plans and have aspirations but for some people it takes over their lives and they forget to live in the here and now and enjoy their life as it is because it really does go by in the blink of an eye.
I had a little lack of faith in my writing the other week. I’m receiving excellent reviews and feedbacks for both books. People take the time to message me personally to let me know how much they enjoyed it but as I want to become a full time writer, I was getting more and more despondent about the lack of sales.
I wallowed for a while, even posted a Tweet about it but then I pulled myself together, gave myself a good talking too and promptly deleted the tweet for a more positive one.
I reminded myself that I am a published author with not one but two books out. I have a further two books releasing in the next few months and a contract for all five Josie books to be published. So instead of focusing on the negatives, I turned it round and focused on the future, making a plan for how to turn my writing into a full time career.
And the biggest positive…I’m alive. Every day I get to wake up and see the sun, walk on this beautiful earth and enjoy time with my family and friends. There are people missing from my life which I would love to be able to spend time with again which I think is why I made them characters in the Josie books. When I’m writing about them it’s almost like they are back with me.
So my advice, always try and find a positive, sometimes you can’t, sometimes you really can’t but appreciate who you have and what you have. If you want to change something in your life then make a plan, work at it but don’t let it take over your life.
Love the people you love, hug them and tell them, make sure they know every day that you’re grateful for them in your life.
