Review: Impossible You

Impossible You Impossible You by Georgia Lyn Hunter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Impossible You is book two in the Players to Men series. I read book one Breathless so couldn’t resist reading this book. I wasn’t disappointed. Jack and Ray are two fabulous characters. I was so rooting for them. Another brilliant read by this author. Can’t wait to read more of this series.

Review: Breathless

Breathless Breathless by Georgia Lyn Hunter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’ve read two fantasy books by this author so I was interested in reading more from her. Well I’m so glad I did as this was a great read.

Breathless is book one of the Players to Men series and what a great start to the series. Neither Max or Logan have had it easy. Max has fallen hook line and sinker for Logan. Max is more mature than his years... which is lucky as Logan is older than him.

If your looking for a well written contemporary romance then I recommend this gem.

Review: See Through: A Rockstar Romance

See Through: A Rockstar Romance See Through: A Rockstar Romance by Brittany Taylor
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It’s been quite a while since I read a rockstar romance and I really enjoyed this story. I kinda got burnt out a few years ago when the rockstar books I read was too similar for my liking. Thankfully this was a refreshing read for me.

A really well written story with likeable characters. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.

MY REVIEW

I’ve read this authors previous books In Safe Hands and At Your Door. I really like DCI Anna Tate so couldn’t wait to read more of her. This was a great read.

DCI Anna Tate is a great character. She’s very likeable and works real hard. We get two storylines running side by side. Anna is called to cut her compassionate leave short when a young boys body is found during the riots. At the same time her daughter finds herself caught up in the riots with no way to reach her mum.

Really enjoyed this story and read it pretty quickly. Definitely recommend it.

Review: Lawless Kingdom

Lawless Kingdom Lawless Kingdom by Natalie Bennett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Gah I so want more. Every time I read one of this authors stories I’m greedy and want more. I just can’t help it. This author has a way with words that hooks me from start to finish. Lawless Kingdom is book one in the Reign & Ruin series. We get introduced to Rhiannon and Judas. Although they are at high school it’s not a story for everyone. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait to read more of this series.

Review: Opaque Melodies

Opaque Melodies Opaque Melodies by Natalie Bennett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If you’ve read any of Natalies books you will know to expect the unexpected.

Opaque Melodies is another amazing story from her. I love how she messes with my head, how when I was reading this story I didn’t know what to think or what to feel. All I knew was I couldn’t put my kindle down until I’d read it all.

Apologies for my vague review but I don’t want to spoil this story for anyone. I will say if you love dark and twisted stories then I highly recommend this story.

EXTRACT

They arrived at the same time as Assistant Chief Fire Officer Matthew Whalen, and parked right behind his red Ford Ranger. As they were climbing out of their car into the rain, a second fire engine came down the boreen, its blue lights flashing, although it was obvious now that it wouldn’t be needed. The burned-out car had been draped over with a large grey tarpaulin and the first-responding firefighters were standing around it, shuffling their feet, dripping wet and subdued.
Katie lifted her shiny black raincoat out of the back seat. It had a pointed hood and Conor had always told her that it made her look like one of the witches of Islandmagee. Kyna’s yellow anorak had a hood, too, with a furry surround. They caught up with Matthew Whalen, and as they did so, Garda Phelan and Garda O’Connor got out of their car, where they had been sheltering, and Station Officer Hogan came over, too.
‘So, what’s the story?’ asked Katie.
‘It looks like both petrol tanks went up, one after the other,’ said Station Officer Hogan. ‘We’ll have to see what the fire investigation fellows have to say about it, of course, and your technical experts. As a general rule, though, almost all spontaneous vehicle fires start in the engine compartment, not the petrol tank.’
‘Meaning that you don’t think this was spontaneous?’
‘Like I say, we’ll have to wait for Cumann Imscrúdaitheorí Dóitéan to check it out. But I’d bet money that this fire was started deliberate-like.’
‘Detective O’Donovan said that a witness saw another vehicle here, just before it blew up.’
‘That’s right, ma’am,’ said Garda O’Connor. ‘That farmer standing over there by his tractor. A grey or silver SUV, that’s what he said it was. We’re going to be showing him pictures of various vehicles to see if he can narrow it down a bit.’
‘O’Donovan also told me that this car’s registered to Justice Garrett Quinn. Have you been able to tell if it’s him who was driving?’
‘We haven’t been able to identify the driver for sure. We didn’t want to touch him before the technical experts, do you know what I mean. There’s an iPhone lying on the floor in front of the passenger seat, but its screen is all shattered, like, and again we didn’t want to touch it in case we messed up any forensics.’
Katie turned back to Station Officer Hogan. ‘I’d like to take a look at the driver.’
‘He’s a bit on the burnt side, ma’am, as you can imagine.’
‘I’ve seen worse.’
‘Okay, then,’ said Station Officer Hogan. ‘Lads – can you be after lifting up that tarp so that DS Maguire can take a sconce at the body?’
Two of the firefighters raised the wet tarpaulin and folded it noisily over the roof of the burned-out car. Katie approached it, walking stiffly, and then stood looking for almost half a minute at the carbonized figure sitting behind the steering wheel. His skin had been burned away, so that his muscles were exposed and ruptured, all bobbly and black, as if he had been roughly sculpted out of lumps of coal. His eye sockets were empty and his brown teeth were bared in a wolfish snarl.
The interior of the car was skeletal. All that remained of the seats was their metal framework and the shiny walnut facias had been blistered and charred. Katie noticed that the driver’s right hand was still resting on the steering wheel, almost casually.
She stepped right up close to the driver’s door. She had already seen what she had been dreading she would see, but she wanted to make absolutely sure. There was no question about it. The carbonized man was Justice Garrett Quinn. She crossed herself and whispered, ‘Please, Lord, grant him eternal rest.’ Then she turned away, tugging her hood down low so that Station Officer Hogan and the rest of the firefighters wouldn’t see that her eyelashes were crowded with tears.
Kyna came up to her. ‘Are you all right, ma’am?’
‘Yes, thank you, Kyna. Grand altogether.’
‘You’re not, though.’
‘Why are you always so perceptive? No, I’m not.’

MY REVIEW

Superb. That’s exactly what this read was. From start to finish I couldn’t read this fast enough. The author sucks you in straightaway. The story is told in the past and in the present. As the topic is domestic abuse it isn’t a story for everyone. It’s a fast paced gripping read that had me on the edge of my seat. This is definitely going to be one of my top reads this year. Yet another fantastic read from this author and I’m already looking forward to reading more from him.

Author Bio:

I have always loved scary stories, especially ones that shocked me, left me terrified, looking under my bed or in the wardrobe before going to sleep.
There was just a fantastic buzz whenever I watched or read something that took my breathe away.
I remember going to my nan’s house in Ireland as a youngster with my mother and sister, on the West Coast, staying in a cottage, surrounded by miles of fields and my family sitting around the table in the kitchen at night telling ghost stories. Going out and exploring derelict farmhouses in the middle of nowhere. I remember clearly the field at the end of the road was supposed to be haunted by headless nuns.
My cousins often remind me of the great times we had, frightening each other and running for our lives whenever we’d see something that didn’t look right.
This is why I love nothing more than to tell a story.

I started writing two years ago, penning The House On Rectory Lane.
I got the idea from something that has often seemed scary to me. I know that a terrifying story has to be something that you’re frightened of doing, something that makes the hairs stand on the back of your neck, something that fills you with dread, yet also with excitement.
To me, the thought of going to a house in the middle of nowhere, upping and leaving a busy town and moving to the country is something that scares lots of people and me: the seclusion, the quiet, the darkness.
That’s what inspired me to write my first novel.

My second thriller is called Turn The Other Way.
I have multiple stories running, past and present. A family who want answers from the surgeon responsible for their daughter’s death.
A young woman looking for her parents after they go missing from a party.
A couple driving home and hearing screams for help from the back of the van in front of them.
A serial killer on the loose in North London, dragging victims off the street.

I’m so grateful when people not only read my thrillers but also take the time to get in touch and leave a review. To me, that is the greatest feeling, hearing from people that have enjoyed my work. I know then that I’m doing something right.

I’m currently working on my new thriller, Apartment Six, which Will be released 29th of January.

I’m 45, married and have two beautiful children. Currently, I’m a full-time plumber but would love nothing more than to make a living from my writing.
I hope I write stories and people continue to enjoy them for years to come. That would be completely amazing and a dream come true.
