Vixen - blog tour

BLOG TOUR

Vixen, Sam Michaels

About the book

While World War Two rages on around them, the gangs of London are fighting for their turf...

There might be a war on, but that doesn't stop Georgina Garrett running her business with an iron fist. No one said running the Battersea gang was going to be easy, but her unflinchable nature makes Georgina unstoppable.
With a role that requires a ruthless ability to seek revenge and pay out crippling punishments, Georgina's enemies are growing in number. With a target on her back, Georgina knows she must do everything to protect her family. But, with the loss of someone closest to her, can Georgina rise up from the ashes or allow a usurper take her crown?
Perfect for fans of Peaky Blinders, Martina Cole and Lesley Pearse.

EXTRACT

Half an hour later, the car pulled up outside Georgina’s home. It was the same house she’d lived in all her life, raised by her dear departed grandmother. She could have moved on and rented somewhere bigger and in a nicer area but this was where her heart and memories lived and she couldn’t bring herself to leave them behind. It was the only home she’d ever known, a constant in her life.
Victor opened the back door of the car and as Georgina climbed out, she saw Lash coming from the house towards her.
‘Have you heard the news?’ he asked gravely.
‘Yes, we’re at war. Where’s Alfie?’
‘Your dad has taken him over the park,’ Lash answered and gently kissed her cheek. As he did, the air suddenly filled with a screeching, wailing noise.
‘Air raid sirens,’ Lash said and looked towards the sky.
A woman from a few doors down dashed past them. She was crying and shouting, ‘The Jerries are gonna bomb us… Take cover!’
She noticed the woman was only wearing one shoe and was obviously panicking. Lash reached for Georgina’s hand and gently squeezed it as if to offer reassurance.
Georgina returned the gesture with a tender smile. ‘They’re probably just testing them out. I’m not worried – there’s nothing here for the Germans to drop bombs on. I bet Alfie is loving it – you know how he enjoys playing soldiers. Come on, let’s get inside and put the kettle on. I’m gasping for a cuppa.’
As she followed Lash into the hallway, over the shrill sound of the sirens, she heard the telephone trill. She guessed it would be Molly. Her friend would be calling to voice her fears about the war. But when she picked up the receiver and before she had a chance to say hello, Molly began blurting out something about Charlotte.
‘Hey, slow down. The line is crackling, I can’t hear you properly,’ Georgina said into the mouthpiece and rolled her eyes at Lash.
Molly took a deep breath and explained that Charlotte had run off again from their farm in Kent. She suspected her sixteen-year-old sister was in Battersea somewhere.
‘Don’t worry, Molly, I’ll find her,’ Georgina said and then she heard Fanny’s voice in the background, scathing, as usual. Molly’s mother still blamed Georgina for the death of her other daughter, Ethel, and made no secret about it.
Molly told her mother to be quiet and Georgina promised she’d do everything she could to locate Charlotte.
‘What was all that about?’ Lash asked as Georgina hung up the telephone.
By now, the sirens had stopped but Georgina’s head was still buzzing. ‘Bloody Charlotte has run away again,’ she answered as she walked through to the kitchen.
‘Well, she’s sixteen. She can choose to live where she likes and she seems to prefer Battersea to the farm.’
‘Yeah, but you know what Fanny’s like. I’ve offered to give Charlotte a job and keep an eye on her but Fanny won’t hear of it. Do me a favour, darling, and get on the phone to put word out. She’ll turn up again soon, like a bad penny.’
Georgina filled the kettle at the sink and gazed out into the backyard. Her eyes set on the piece of dirt next to the coal bunker. Still, no grass grew over that area where her beloved grandmother had buried a barrel with her second husband, Percy, inside. Well, thought Georgina, her grandmother had lived through the Great War. In fact, Georgina had been born on the day war had been declared and she’d survived unscathed. She had no reason to worry about this one. And like she’d told Lash, there wasn’t anything round here worth bombing. Huh, she thought defiantly, if the Germans thought they’d like to visit her town, they should be the ones to be scared. After all, she’d built herself a reputation and now just about everyone in Battersea either respected or feared the name Georgina Garrett and that’s how she intended to keep it.

The Patience of a Dead Man by Michael Clark
#ThePatienceofaDeadMan @MikeClarkBooks @damppebbles #damppebblesblogtours

Book Blurb:
He just spent everything on a house in disrepair, but he didn’t know someone was waiting inside.

Tim Russell just put his last dollar on a handyman’s dream; a quaint but dilapidated farmhouse in New Hampshire. Newly single after a messy divorce, his plan is to live in the house as he restores it for resale. To his horror, as soon as the papers are signed and his work starts, ghosts begin to appear. A bone-white little boy. A woman covered in flies. Tim can’t afford to leave and lose it all, so he turns to his real estate agent Holly Burns to help him decide whether he has any shot at solving his haunted problem. Can they solve the mystery before he loses his investment…or maybe his life?

MY REVIEW

This is a fantastic read.

Tim Russell has just gone through a divorce. He’s bought a run down farmhouse that he intends to restore. He doesn’t realise until the paperwork is signed that the farmhouse is haunted. This was a creepy disturbing kinda read and I couldn’t read it fast enough.

To say I loved it is an understatement.. it’s a brilliant read and I need to read book two ASAP.

I’m so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone to read this. It was so so good.

About Michael Clark:
Michael Clark was raised in New Hampshire and lived in the house The Patience of a Dead Man is based on. The bats of the barn really circled the rafters all day and there actually was a man-made grove hidden in the forest. He now lives in Massachusetts with his wife Josi and his dog Bubba.

The Patience of a Dead Man is his first novel. Dead Woman Scorned is his second. More to come.

So Many Lies - blog tour

BLOG TOUR

It began with a family gathering - it ended in a bloodbath.

When the Harrington family rent a private island to celebrate their dad's 70th birthday, old lies resurface, resulting in a murderous revenge.

Ben Harrington is stuck.

He’s recently separated from his wife of over twenty years, leaving his almost adult son and daughter feeling angry and betrayed.

What’s more, his daughter Alice has cerebral palsy and he can’t forgive himself for letting her down when she needed him most.

Ben left the family house due to an ill-advised fling with Laura resulting in an unplanned pregnancy.

But all that is the least of Ben’s troubles.

It’s his dad Tony’s 70th birthday and he and his wife Susan have invited the family over to a remote tropical island in order to mark the occasion.

That should be cause for celebration, but there are terrible secrets lurking in the Harrington family which are about to burst out into the open – siblings Steve, Ben, Gaby and Richard are all caught up in this web of deceit.

So Many Lies follows the story of the Harringtons through a series of life-changing lies, dating back to 1979, and as the story builds towards the big celebration, so does the gravity of the lies which brought the family to where they are when we meet them in the book.

Thought your family was screwed up? Wait until you meet the Harringtons ...

MY REVIEW

This is a brilliant read. I like when a story is written in the past and present but it must be written well. This ticks another box as it’s written well. Been written this way gives us a better insight into the characters.

A 70th birthday has a family gathering to celebrate on a private island. I can’t say I liked Ben very much. His life is in turmoil but I couldn’t find any sympathy for him.

SO MANY LIES running through the story had me pretty much gripped from start to finish.

I’ve read a previous book by this author and after reading this I’m gonna go and read more from this author in the future.

While She Sleeps - my review

Oh wow. This is a brilliant retelling of Sleeping Beauty. If you’ve read anything by this author you will know she has her own unique way with words and she certainly wrote an amazing story here.

Logan believes he will never find a woman that will agree to his certain needs. He doesn’t realise that Vera has her own needs. These two are wicked together.

Fantastic storyline that had me gripped from start to finish. Can’t wait to read more from this author. I highly recommend this story.

You can't save someone that doesn't want to be saved . . .'

For some people, trouble just finds them.

Thirty years ago, Vincent King became a killer.

Now, he's been released from prison and is back in his hometown of Cape Haven, California. Not everyone is pleased to see him. Like Star Radley, his ex-girlfriend, and sister of the girl he killed.

Duchess Radley, Star's thirteen-year-old daughter, is part-carer, part-protector to her younger brother, Robin - and to her deeply troubled mother. But in trying to protect Star, Duchess inadvertently sets off a chain of events that will have tragic consequences not only for her family, but also the whole town.

Murder, revenge, retribution.

How far can we run from the past when the past seems doomed to repeat itself?

MY REVIEW

We Begin at the End is my first but certainly not my last read by this author. If his previous books have been as good as this then I’m definitely missing out on some great reads.

As soon as I started reading this I was addicted to the words. When I wasn’t reading about it I was thinking about it and wishing I was reading it.

This is a brilliantly written character driven story. A crime story like no other. A story that you need to read yourself. I’m definitely gonna be reading this authors previous books as well.

I was taught to be unbreakable like a diamond. I was a diamond, and diamonds don't break.❞

MY REVIEW

I’ve not heard of this author before but after reading this I want to read all the words from her as this was a great read. Brilliant storyline with two fab characters.

Ren and Ember are two badass characters. You shouldn’t like them but can’t help liking them. Ember is spoilt and rich. She portrays herself as selfish but there’s so many interesting layers to her. Ren finds himself as Embers bodyguard. She challenges him on so many levels. Ren is a dark character with many secrets. He will do anything to protect Ember.

This was a brilliant read. It kept me up late into the night and as soon as I got a chance the next day I sat and finished it.

I’m so excited to read more from this author.

MY REVIEW

Wow I absolutely loved this story. I took my kindle out to the garden yesterday afternoon and pretty much inhaled this story. I kept a few chapters to read in bed last night.. I just didn’t want it to end.

Megara is a very likeable character. She’s strong, feisty and knows what she wants. What she doesn’t want is to marry Henrik. However that’s what their fathers have decided will happen. Henrik is a monster but me being me I liked him lol

This was a brilliant story from start to finish and the conclusion was so so good.

I can’t wait to read more from this collection.
