Atlas - new release

Atlas by Alyne Roberts – Release Day Blitz
November 30th, 2015

Stella lost everyone and everything important to her. After all the lies and hiding, she's ready for a fresh start somewhere where her brother’s enemies won’t find her. One last night out turned into her worse nightmare. The morning she should be moving away from all the painful memories, she finds herself a captive by exactly who she was running from.

Atlas is determined to finish what they started. Stella is unknowingly the key to solving the unanswered questions her brother left behind. Taking advantage of their sexual chemistry at the club, he forced her to his lake house. He promised her protection but Stella made a promise of her own: Trust no one, especially the man responsible for ruining her life.

What happens when Stella’s life depends on trusting Atlas? What happens when keeping Stella is risking everything he worked for? What if neither one is willing to let go?

Excerpt

"Stella," I heard Atlas growl from the end of the hall. Only a few dozen feet of expensive hardwood floor separated us.
The sound of his deep and commanding voice pushed one more burst of will through me. I could hear my own cries as I punched the rest of the shards away. The glass digging into my skin didn't register in my mind as I tried to push my body through the thin opening. I was able to fit the upper half of my body through before I felt a hand grab my leg.
"You fucking bitch."One of the goons had my leg and yanked me roughly back.
"Let go!" I cried and kicked. My bare foot connected with a hard body and I was released.
Hearing my name called once more, I used every ounce of strength to pull myself the rest of the way. Glass and wood scraped at my skin, but I didn't stop. I could feel the cool night air on my skin. I could smell the rain that had recently fallen and saw the moon hidden in the clouds in the sky. I was outside!
The night was so dark I couldn't see a more than few feet in front of me. I actually couldn't see any light in the distance at all. My heartbeat thumped and my breath came in hard pants as I ran away from the house. I could hear the shouts for me, and Atlas barking commands, but I couldn't look back. It didn't matter that I had no idea where I was going. My bare feet hit the gravel and my body cut through the night air as I sprinted up the gravel drive. I had to keep going. I had to lose him and find help. I just had to keep running.
"Stella! Stop!" My heart stopped when I heard Atlas's voice behind me.
In a panic, I turned off to the right into the tall grass. I could hear him cursing as he entered the thick brush behind me. The grass and branches slapped my bare skin, stinging me. This would be my only hope to lose him and get away. I kept running, ignoring the pain and shortness of breath until I couldn't hear him any longer.
Bent over with my hands on my knees, I struggled to breathe. Every gasp of air burned and my entire body ached. I couldn't see in the darkness, and all I could hear was my own heartbeat pounding. Even the moon had been swallowed by the clouds. Goosebumps trailed over my sweaty skin as I noticed how very lost and screwed I really was.
"There's nowhere to go, Stella," his voice surrounded me. "You won't get away."
Fuck! Just when I thought I was alone, he had found me. A cry escaped my lips and I tried to run, only to be pulled back. My back hit a hard body behind me at the same time a hand clamped over my mouth. My cries and screams were muffled under the pressure of his hand. Another arm snaked around my chest and fingers wrapped around my throat.
"Shh," Atlas whispered in my ear. "That was fucking stupid. So stupid. You're hurt now."
I lashed out against him but it was pointless. The hand around my throat tightened in warning. His hold was strong and held me immobile in his arms. I slumped against him in defeat and despair. All the strength and determination leaked out of my body.
He found me. I ran and he caught me. I was warned how foolish it would be to run and now I would have to face the consequences. Tears streamed down my face and over his hand as the adrenaline wore off and reality sank in. Everything hurt and it was only Atlas holding me up on my feet.
His lips brushed my ear, sending a shiver down my spine. "Don't you dare fucking scream, understand?"
I nodded once and his fingers slowly lifted from my mouth and wrapped around my waist. I pulled in a deep breath, feeling the pain in my ribs with the inhale. Atlas tilted my head back while still keeping his grip on my throat. Even though I couldn't see his face, I felt his hard stare on me. Anger was rolling off his body in hot waves, and every muscle pressed to me was rock hard.

I've read a few of this authors books and enjoyed them. I must say this is my favourite to date.

Penny and Blake meet whilst they are both in foster care. They help each other survive and start making plans for the future together. Penny is left devastated when she goes back to the house and find that Blake has disappeared.

Years later we read of how Penny still hasn't recovered from Blake leaving her. She keeps herself to herself and won't let anyone get close.

When Blake re enters her life will he help her to move forward?

I found this to be a really great friends to lovers kinda read.

I was his lucky Penny. He was my light in the dark, hope in despair. Our bond was one of survival, friendship... first love.

But then we were ripped apart and Blake Weston became the memory I turned to when everything else in my life fell apart.

Seven years later, a summer working at Camp Chance is supposed to be my fresh start. Beautiful scenery and the chance to better the lives of foster children--kids like me. EXCERPT

Marissa didn’t follow me. It was most likely she had pieced together our story after Blake’s song. How could she not? It was as if he had weaved our entire relationship into his lyrics. I could feel his sixteen-year-old self singing every line to my sixteen-year-old self. Although, I was pretty certain the sixteen-year-old Blake I’d known then had no clue how to play the guitar.

After washing the tearstains from my face, I brushed my teeth. It was still early, but I couldn’t face going back out there, so I changed into my shorts and tank top and climbed into bed. Sleep would be impossible, but at least here, I was safe.

Most people felt lonely in solitude, but I welcomed the silence. I embraced it even. Something about the quiet, the knowledge no one else was around, comforted me. I knew it made me different. I didn’t need a shrink to tell me that, but it didn’t change the fact that I found sanctuary in being alone.

I lay there not really allowing myself to think. Thinking was dangerous; it led to remembering, and my memories were stained with pain and hurt and the kinds of things that made most people’s nightmares look like a walk in the park. Instead, I tracked the uneven cabin ceiling. My eyes followed the planes of the wood from one end to the other and back again until they grew heavy.

A knock on the door startled me sending my already restless heart into overdrive and I rubbed at my eyes.

“Hello?” I called out hoping to hear Marissa’s voice, but I knew it wasn’t her. She wouldn’t have knocked; she would have barged right in and demanded answers.

“Penny, it’s me.”

I squeezed my eyes shut, but my mind betrayed me as an image of Blake’s face filled my head.

Another knock.

“Penny.”

Forcing myself to sit up, I swung my legs over the edge of the bed. He wasn’t going away. Blake—our connection—was something I was going to have to deal with sooner or later, and from Blake’s admissions over the last few days, it seemed that he was making the decision for me.

My legs were like lead as I walked to the door. It swung open and Blake stood there looking at me with such reverence in his eyes I almost crumpled. Maybe I did crumple because, before my head had time to process what was happening, I was in Blake’s arms, and he was holding on to me like he needed me to breathe.

“I’ve missed you so much. I’ve tried to stay away, to give you space, but I can’t. I can’t spend another day feeling like you might slip through my fingers again.”

One of Blake’s hands buried itself in my hair and cradled my head holding me to him. My face pressed up against the collar of his hoodie, and I breathed him in. He smelled familiar, like damp grass and fresh air, of a time when things were less complicated, and my heart ached for us. At that moment, we weren’t two strangers reunited by chance; we were sixteen-year-old Blake and Penny.

And we needed each other to survive.

Excerpt:
That silence hid a lot from their friends, but Liam knew Chris was plagued with memories far worse than his. That’s why they decided not to celebrate alone this year. Billy and Owen were expected any minute and it was the first time they invited anyone to join them. The anniversary was bittersweet for them and they chose to celebrate it because becoming brothers meant that much to them. “Do you think they’ll find it stupid?”

Chris just shrugged as if it was no skin off his back what they thought and Liam knew that was just bravado. Fact was, they both very much cared what the two men thought. “Liar.”

His brother sighed and dropped his head back. As if shit wasn’t fucked up enough, they fell for two bastards just as fucked up as they were. “I know you’re worried about Owen. The business with Colin is growing out of their control and I’m not sure why he thinks it’s a good thing. Is he trying to prove something? And the middle of the night phone calls from the FTR? He’s looking more and more fragile every day.”

Liam knew he wasn’t stating anything new. What he didn’t know was what Chris intended to do about it. Lately, when it came to Owen, Chris conveyed zero intent and seemed to be waiting for Owen to read him as effortlessly as Liam did. Their brother bond had been forged through blood and he was afraid Chris’s expectations of Owen were unreasonable. “Do you see his face every time he thinks he’s failed to understand you? The weight of it is crushing.”

Instead of regret, all Liam saw was anger in Chris. It wasn’t a common emotion for Chris and Liam could name every time he saw it. The fact that Chris knew what he was capable of if provoked had made him extremely conscious of that emotion and he often went to great lengths to contain it.

Owen was the very definition of insecure. Just the type to inspire Chris’s protective instincts, which Liam knew for a fact Owen did. Hell, he inspired Liam’s protective instincts. Owen was stubborn though and he often distanced himself, keeping things bottled up until they manifested elsewhere. Like in panic attacks that felt like heart attacks, which he also tried to hide. Liam nearly lost it when they found out that Billy was keeping Owen’s secret.

Chris nodded slowly, as if he completely followed Liam’s train of thought and waited for him to connect the dots. And just like that, Liam understood. “You’re pissed because he doesn’t come to you when the panic sets in. That he hides it from you and they hide it from us.”

It made total sense, but he had to wonder if they were expecting too much. After all, they couldn’t call what was going on with either man a relationship. No, they were four fucked up bastards trying to come together in some romantic—what? Not a foursome, eww…he loved Chris, but yeah, that just wasn’t happening. And Owen wasn’t his type any more than Billy was Chris’s type. But—always with the fucking buts, right?—what was happening was very definitely happening to the four of them, and Liam now had to wonder if that was the problem, because trying to come together was definitely not the same as being together.

Chris shook his head and shifted in his seat. No, he was right. It wasn’t just their brother bond that made it impossible to move forward as two separate couples. Billy and Owen had formed their own unique friendship in prison and were no more likely to move forward without the other one either. “Just once, couldn’t we have done something the easy way?”

The fire door banged open and Liam turned to see Billy and Owen, arms full of brightly wrapped packages, struggling to pull a huge cluster of balloons through the door. It was a shocking contrast to their dark thoughts and so uncharacteristically sweet of both men. Billy caught their surprised stare and yelled, “Is this where the party’s at?”

“It is now.” It might seem silly, but it was exactly what they needed and exactly who they needed it from. Maybe they hadn’t been expecting too much at all. Liam rose to give them a hand and glanced down to see the look of longing in Chris’s eyes and thought maybe it was time they all expected more.

MEET THE AUTHOR
Like many readers, the dream of being a writer has been with me a long time. After three decades of trying, I'd begun to doubt. Thanks to social media, I followed my favorite authors hoping to glean some words of wisdom as I pounded out half-formed ideas with alarming regularity. Two repetitive themes emerged: to be a great writer you must read a lot and your butt must be in the chair every day like it's a job. The more you write, the easier it will be to write and the better you will be at writing. I took that advice to heart and write every day. With six published books to date, three series in the works and a full schedule of releases planned for the next two years, it's been amazing to have made this dream my reality.

I am a firm believer in marriage equality, love at first sight, power dynamics and happily ever after. I'm a lover of strong secondary characters and series filled with families, biological or chosen. All are themes you'll find throughout my books.

MY REVIEW
Jessie G is a wonderful storyteller and it shows so well in this series. She captivates me straight away and keeps me right there right through the story.

This is the story of Chris , Liam, Billy and Owen. I was so looking forward to reading Chris story and I certainly wasn't disappointed.

I'm not going to say anything about the storyline as I don't want to spoil it for anyone. I will say that this story about four broken men was put together really well. I must admit my heart was in my mouth while reading parts of this story.

If you like reading m/m stories this series is a must read. I loved it.

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Jessie G author of Safety in Numbers. Hi Jessie, thank you for agreeing to this interview.

1) What genres do you enjoy writing in?
Right now, I only publish in MM Romance, however I have an MF triology in the works and a possible FF biker book that may become part of Devils Pride. MF is where I started, both as a reader and a writer, but I never really loved my characters until I wrote Past Hurts. That book was a bit of magic for me, coming to me in a rush, practically writing itself. It opened a dam, so to speak, and while my characters to date have all been gay, I don’t rule out any genre.

2) What was the hardest part about writing this book?
Keeping all the boys straight. The book is about 4 men, two couples (not a quad), and that each have a story to tell. Giving them each the attention they deserved, while trying to show how deeply intertwined their lives where, and still having time for visits from other series favorites made it an intricate puzzle.

3) What did you enjoy most about writing your book?
Redeeming Owen, followed quickly by giving Chris the HEA he deserved. But, seriously, I love a good redemption character and Owen’s been a bit of a shit in the series and I paired him with one of the most beloved characters. I thrived on the hurdles it took to prove Owen worthy of Chris.

4) What cultural value do you see in writing?
When we step back from our everyday lives—work, family, finances, wars (shit, the list is endless)—and find the beauty to be had in a painting, from listening to an original piece of music, or reading a good book, we feed our soul. Hell, just look at nature, watch the clouds drift by, stop and smell the roses (how clichéd), anything to give your mind a break from all that “harsh reality.” It gives us perspective, allows us to breath, and rejuvenates our minds and hearts. I don’t know if that answers the question of cultural value, actually, but that’s how I feel about life. We need less harsh realities and more beauty, more art, more love…so much more.

5) What is your favorite positive saying?
Yes, I can.
Next time you deny yourself or convince yourself you can’t do something, for whatever reason, trying giving yourself permission instead. Those three words will help you find a way over whatever obstacle is holding you back. It’s very freeing. It’s how I published Past Hurts and started me on this wonderful journey.

Tempting - new release

Before I start my review I must say I didn't expect this to be as good as it was. As a blogger I've read quite a few teacher student reads. This is certainly one of my favourite to date.

Nathan is a professor. He's feeling raw pain from his past. One night to escape from the pain he finds himself in a club where he meets Adele. Let's just say their roller coaster of a story starts from here.

I love how Nathan comes across as such a cool and calm guy until Adele is in his head. He can't seem to forget her.

Adele has her own problems to deal with. I love her friend Leo and is so happy he's getting his own book.

Although this is about a taboo subject I loved it. The storyline was unpredictable and gripping. I found myself reading this in one sitting. The sex scenes are hot.

Although this is a standalone I'm super happy to see we are going to get more of Nathan and Adeles story.

Well done to the author on a superb debut novel.

Blurb:

Mark Williams is a former Marine who needs a temporary, just for show bodyguard simply to ease his father's mind. He hires Julie Jameson, a beautiful young woman who looks nothing like a bodyguard even though her resume indicates she’s tough as nails.  She's the perfect candidate. but he's got a few demands of his own. First on that list: he can take his own damn bullets.

Julie doesn’t like being told she was hired because of her looks, or that she isn't allowed to do her job. She is not just an overpriced escort with a gun, she’s good at what she does. Except as things heat up and it becomes obvious to both of them that the threat is real, Mark treats her more like part of the team despite his obvious desire to protect her. And he never treats her as an escort, despite the fact that she really starts regretting that particular clause in the contract.

Together they face explosions, flying bullets, injuries and judgement, all the while dealing with a safehouse full of her brothers, multiple government agencies trying to work together, old friends and older secrets.

The only thing either of them is sure about is that if they both survive, they aren’t letting go. All they have to do is make sure that happens.

Blurb:

SSG Cull Dempsey returns to the town he grew up in ostensibly to help get one of his men settled after a career ending injury, but he’s at a crossroads himself. Due for retirement, tired of certain parts of his job and not knowing anything but the life he’s led for over twenty years, he doesn’t see a place for himself in the civilian world. Nor does he think he belongs anywhere near Megan Hall, a beautiful but battered woman just starting to live life on her terms. The real question he finds himself facing isn’t if he can manage a life outside the military, but if he can control himself enough to keep her safe… even from him.

Warning: Contains sexy soldiers with issues, crazy sisters, family drama, a very distressing damsel, a truly evil ex and lots and lots of smartassery.

Author Bio:

Author Photo (Attached)

JR Bryce (that's me) has been writing since I could read, with varying levels of success.

Some of those early stories were not the bestsellers I hoped for at age six,

but I've gotten better over time. Really. I promise.

I live in my office corner with a man-eating Chihuahua draped across my lap, my real live Evil Muse mind-controlling me via electronic communication, and writing like a crazy person while my all-too-precocious spawnlings plot each other’s murders and my husband runs away in a vain attempt to save his sanity. Fortunately, the beautiful Oregon Coast has lots of things to distract him so I can get the words on paper.
