Synopsis:
He wants to claim her, possess her, rename her.
But she has a different agenda.

JHAY BYRD
Chadrick needs to die.
I’m ruined. My life is ruined. Because of him.
Soulless, heartless, unremorseful, he took everything from me.
Everything.
Now, I’m after his soul.
And no, I will not allow his good looks, suave style, or panty-incinerating body to distract or dissuade me.
Nor will I allow his deadly dark eyes to scare me.
Unlike everyone else, I’m not afraid of him.
The. Chase. Is. On.

CHADRICK NIIVEUX
Jhay needs saving.
I’ve ruined her life. She’s lost, roaming the darkness all on her own, because of me.
Bitter, impulsive, seething with revenge, she thinks she hates me. Thinks she wants me dead.
I know I should kill her. Kill or be killed, right?
Except, I can’t.
I’m shot down. Infatuated.
I’ve always been.
And while she’s after my life, I’m after her heart.
The. Chase. Is. On.

Meet the Author:
S. Ann Cole is a passionate writer and reader, and a lover of anything that distracts her from the real world. Reader first and second a writer, S. Ann Cole is an exaggerator, a laugher, sometimes overly chatty, sometimes overly shy. She’s afraid of cats, dogs, snakes—heck, she’s only tolerable to gold fishes in a tank. Because if they do jump out and try to attack her, the suckers will die…
She hates chocolate, schmaltz and arrogance.
She loves carbs, Chris Brown and humility.
She lives nowhere and everywhere.
Jokey people are her favorite people, as laughter is the way to her heart.
Ann hopes that one day, the right day, when it’s her time (because nothing happens before its time), her hard work will be noticed and appreciated, and she’ll become a “bestselling author”…
…But she’s guessing that might not be likely if she continues to write such sucky author bios.
When Ann’s not abusing her computer keyboard, you can find her nosing a novel, watching anything on television that makes her laugh until she breaks into hiccups, studying the Bible, or guzzling booze.

Out of the Darkness - cover reveal

Title: Out of the Darkness (The Darkness Book 2)

Author: Simone Nicole

Release Date: October 11th

Out of the Darkness blurb.

She ruined me. The walls I’d built were for a reason, locking myself in my own personal prison was out of necessity. Now, with the rubble at my feet, I could do nothing but watch as she ripped my soul in two, taking the half she owned with her.

The need to settle down, to find that missing piece, for the all-consuming love, was never Drew’s plan. He’d spent the better part of a decade suppressing all memory of love, of life. He told himself he had the essentials; the impressive apartment, the successful club, the simple uncomplicated life he’d worked so hard to create. All he needed. Until Mia.

She entered his life like wildfire, burning through his world and destroying all pretences of simplicity, bringing out everything he’d fought to deny.

Longing. Warmth. Love.

She made him want it all but Amelia lived in the darkness. It had always been her constant, yet terrifying companion. A shadow she'd never been able to out run and one fateful night, it finally consumed her. Shattering both their worlds and burying them deeper in the dark.

Drew will stop at nothing to save her, for their happy ever after but, Mia isn’t the only one with demons … it’s a long way out of the darkness.

Author Bio:

Self-confessed chocoholic and undiagnosed crazy person, Simone can be found climbing Himalayan mountaintops like a ninja, sky diving backwards and rubbing shoulders with billionaires. She is also full of crap, but can read backwards and upside down, the one plus of being dyslexic.

Simone loves all things Disney and alcoholic, and is rarely seen not reading, writing or wearing lipstick, usually of the red variety.

Book 1

Ahead of the Darkness

It has been a long, long time since I’ve seen your little face, chérie. Not once did you visit. That really hurt; after all, it was thanks to you I was convicted. That’s not something you forget.

I thought it was time— a visit was due. Seeing as you wouldn’t come to me, I thought it only right I come to you. Sadly, you weren’t home, but your furry feline was more than accommodating . . .

I’ll be seeing you soon, mon chérie. I’ll always find you . . .

For six years, a letter has dictated Amelia’s future. She’s running from a past that refuses to stop, always trying to get one step ahead. Amelia is clever and resilient, and refuses to slip up.

Relying only on herself, she’ll be anything and anyone she needs to survive. But everyone slips up . . . eventually. You can’t always stay ahead of the darkness.

No one has ever made her want to be so good.

Declan White is the stereotypical nice guy. When his fraternity brother betrays him with the girl of his dreams, he struggles to be the man he is without losing himself.  Eliza might just be what he needs.

No one has ever made him want to be so bad.

When these two come together, their lives collide in a battle of wills. One moment can change the rest of your life. You can accept it... or you can hope for something more.

Excerpts:

Excerpt #1

Declan's POV

I've learned to disappear. Over the last few months, I've perfected the art of avoidance. Quincy wants to apologize. Brody wants to apologize. Everybody's sorry about what happened.

Apology not accepted.

There's not a damn thing, not one word, that either of them could say to make me feel any better. The old me would have pushed the pain aside, ignoring my own feelings, to do whatever it took to make things right. Well, I'm not that guy anymore.

I can't stomach the pity on Brody's face, that misplaced concern, too little, too late. I don't want his pity. I just want to punch him in the face, but it still wouldn't be enough. Accepting his apology would allow him to breathe a little easier, and he doesn't deserve it.

And Quincy. Just thinking about her twists the knife in my gut. It's not that I don't believe her when she says she's sorry. It's just that I don't need her apology. I need her.

Excerpt #2:

Liza's POV

"Hey, I need to go. You want me to walk you home?" I can tell by the expression on his face that he really means 'walk me home' when he says that. It's not code for 'wanna go get freaky?' like I'm used to.

Home? No. That is not what I want. I see Jerk-off weaving his way through the crowd, looking for me, and I grab Declan's hand, pulling him along behind me. All of a sudden, a night on that guy's couch with a few minutes of rutting no longer appeals to me.

"Let's go!" I yell over my shoulder, wishing he was asking something different but knowing it's for the best. I head straight for the stairs, the loud music and heat pressing in on me.

I push open the large metal doors, taking a deep breath as we step out into the warm night air. It's after midnight, and this isn't how my nights usually end.

Releasing his hand, I begin walking in the direction of my dorm.  I walk quickly, turning the corner into an alley, not even sure he's still following me. I'm startled when he reaches for my shoulder, stopping me, and steps in front of me.

"Liza, is something wrong? I didn't mean..." He rubs his hand over his dark, cropped hair once more as he takes a step back.

"It's fine. I'm just drunk and need to get out of here." I'm defensive. Rejection settles in the pit of my stomach. It's not something I'm used to, and I hate it. I mean really, really hate it.

"Liza." His voice is low and steady but commanding. I look up, finding him just as conflicted as I am. He takes two small steps, closer to me, and I back up, until my back is against the hard concrete wall. When he's standing directly in front of me, his chest heaving and his voice breathless, he whispers, "I'm going to be naughty now."

He leans down, a hand tilting my chin up to his. For a moment, the world stands still, and then, his mouth crashes into mine, his hands find my waist and lift me up, pressing my back into the wall. It's hard, and sexy, and raw, and I can't fight it. I don't want to.

I raise my legs, wrapping them shamelessly around his waist, unable to get close enough. His hardness fits tightly against me, the friction pure torture. I'm aware that my skirt is above my hips and someone could see us at any moment, but I can't make myself care.

There's nothing but his tongue, pushing its way into my mouth, his fingers gripping my thighs, and his heart pounding against mine. Nothing but him.

Wrapping my hands around his neck, I deepen the kiss, our teeth clashing together, desperate, hungry for more. He groans, devouring my lips with his own. Abruptly, he pulls away, leaving me stunned as our chests heave between us. Staring into each other's eyes for several long moments, we struggle to catch our breaths.

He breaks the silence first. "How did I do?" His mouth is so close to mine, the words vibrate across my lips, his lips teasing mine.

"Perfect."

"Do you wanna go somewhere?" This time, I know he means something different. And this... this is what I can handle.

Excerpt:
Varona’s gaze watched his every movement. Her aim on his head didn’t waver either. With her shoulders aching, and her knees starting to burn in the position she was in, she was quite tempted to shimmy down the tree.
After she surveyed that her escape route was non-existent, each man positioned at a direct point of flight, she dropped the bow and sunk down on her butt. Her eyes fixed on the man that was dead set on taking her as one of their slaves.
Every so often, his eyes would lock with hers. The humorous glint that reflected back at her belied his harsh words.
Didn’t they?
Or perhaps his harsh fucking around was playful to him.
The thick base of the tree vibrated with each thrust at the bark. She knew deep down that the tree wouldn’t last. If she got hurt, she wouldn’t be able to get away. Thorfinn would be able to ravish her, and she would have no fight left in her.
Would he be so bold as to take advantage of her?
Her gaze swept down towards him. His lips wrapped around a bone joint, and he sucked slowly. Varona realized his eyes had never left her—he watched with an ownership that scared the shit out of her and yet had moisture pooling between her legs.
Yes, he would be so bold.
Taking a deep breath and shifting her position, she slung the bow across her chest, over her shoulder, and started down the tree.
Defeat was a powerful thing.
It sunk into the core of her very being, and the urge to weep invaded all parts of her. Tears burned the back of her throat as she slowly made her way down to her doom. Taking in a deep breath before she turned around she caught the scent of fresh meat, mead, and man. Before she could stop her rotation, she was slammed against the tree. A hard body pressed against hers, pinning her in place. Sucking in a shocked breath, she looked up into the glowing hues of Thorfinn. Her body responded instantly, her lips went dry, nipples grew hard, and the ache between her legs drew a whimper from her.
The smile grew on Thorfinn’s lips. Quickly, he disarmed her before one hand locked both her arms behind her back. The arch pushed her breasts forward, making her nipples visible through the fabric of the men’s shirt, a growl rumbled from him. It vibrated against and heated her body.
She felt the flush take her over and she looked away.
“Oh, no you don’t, my sweet Varona,” He rumbled.
His other hand had managed to yank at the leather pulls that kept her trousers up. With a sudden whoosh of chilled air, they puddled at her feet.
“You will look at me while I claim you. You are mine now. You will obey, and you will understand and submit to me. Is that clear, Varona?”
She looked at him, his words dousing chilled water over her arousal.
“Feck you, Thor!”
He grinned before she felt his thick fingers play against her thighs.
Varona whimpered before she clamped her thighs shut against his hand.
Thorfinn pressed harder against her. The bark bit into her flesh, and she cried out. As her lips parted, his mouth crashed against hers, and all thought left her brain. Rationally, she knew it shouldn’t be this easy to lose her senses. The man was taking her most precious thing from her—in front of his men, and her father, no less!
His tongue dominated her mouth, and she tasted the meat and man that assaulted her. Her body flared up like a fire storm, and she pressed back against him. Her own inexperienced tongue toyed with his as he chuckled against her kiss-swollen lips.
“That’s it, good girl,” he rumbled. His fingers now slid through the wet slit of her cunt.
The fight and flight instinct roared back, and she bucked against him just as his thumb circled a tight little bundle of nerves, bringing forth a harsh gust of air from her lungs.
“Oh, for the gods!”
She fell back against the tree, her eyes fluttering shut. His fingers stopped moving forcing her to open them as the ache burned between her thighs.
“You will look in my eyes the whole time I claim you. You will know who owns this tight quim. You will bow, and you will beg! Is that clear?”
She opened her mouth to protest, but his lips took hers again in a bruising kiss. His fingers shoved into her entrance, and she cried out into his mouth. She made weak attempts to overpower him, but he was a skilled lover-the kind women in their village talked and bragged about. She had nothing to offer him. The idea of boring him did something to her chest, and she found she was thrusting against his hand.
His eyes smiled down at her. That glow was possessive.
“That’s it. Take it, own it.”
She couldn’t stop as his fingers went deeper with each thrust, faster. The sound of wet flesh sucking brought the arousal higher. His fingers curved and teased inside her. Her body grew hot, and sweat beaded on her forehead. All the time watching him, her eyes never left his until he would nip at her earlobe or run a wet trail down her neck with his tongue.
“You’re so fucking tight, Varona. Gods, I want you around my cock. I want to pound into you until you are screaming my name and only my name!”
His erotic words were sending her over the edge. Just as his fingers pushed deeper, a pain sliced through her, and she clenched around him. He shifted, looking down at her with wide eyes before satisfaction took over that gaze, and he pulled his fingers out. Her hips followed his retreat, and she cried out.
He laughed. “So wanton now, my Varona. Would you like to come?” He nipped at her bottom lip, and his thumb started to circle that sensitive little numb. Her hips jerked-her body on fire.
She started to tense. His eyes bore into her as she got closer to some sort of event that took over her mind and body. She made mewling sounds like an animal in heat, which filled the quiet woods—and realized it was her.
She begged for more.
Lowering his head, his hot breath kissing her ear before his words filled her entire being.
“Spill that juice all over my hand and come for your Northman!” he growled.
She screamed his name, the sound echoing as she bucked and tried to get more of him. Her eyes closed then, and she collapsed against the tree as waves of hot, agonizing bliss filled her to near exploding into a thousand tiny pieces.
Kisses peppered her cheeks and wet flesh as she started to calm and come down from her high.
“MINE!” he growled against her neck.

Prim and Proper - review

This was a really great read. It's my first read by this author but it won't be the last.

Sean Proper and Prim Aurora never intended on having a relationship. That is until they meet each other. However they are completely different characters. I loved how they kept working towards their relationship. There's a mystery running through this book. If Sean and Prim can solve the mystery maybe their relationship will have a chance.

Really enjoyed this book.

Summary from Goodreads:

Disappointment has been on speed dial in Ellen Grayson's life lately. Her dad's dead, her mom is numbing the grief with drugs and alcohol, and her so-called friends are slowly abandoning her. Trusting a popular teacher with her troubles should have been safe, shouldn't have led to an unwelcome seduction attempt, shouldn't have sent her running to the girls' bathroom for the final moments of her Junior year. Lesson learned. Best to keep all the sordid details of her life to herself.

Enter Rex Jacobi, a cocky teen recently transplanted from New York and fellow summer camp employee. Though his quick wit and confidence draws her in, she's not letting him get too close, not til she's sure she can trust him. By the time Rex's charming persistence wears down her resistance, it's too late. He's put Ellen on the perma-pal shelf and shifted his romantic attentions to her arch-rival. Even worse, the teacher who tried to seduce her is still misbehaving with impunity.

With her ability to trust as shaky as a chastity vow on prom night, Ellen must decide if she has enough remaining courage to speak up about her teacher and risk retribution, to tell Rex how she feels and risk heartbreak, or hold all her secrets inside, the only safe place she knows.

Excerpt

A game of Uno is the perfect antidote to pent-up frustration, and soon I have three other children gathered around a card table in a take-no-prisoners game, which is shockingly cutthroat for six-year-olds. We're loud and boisterous, and my mood lightens. Soon, we've attracted a few observers. I offer my hand and seat to Carlton, taking a spot behind him to offer a few strategy tips.

That's when I first notice the bruises rising slightly above the neckline of his shirt. My eyes drop to his arms where a set of older bruises would have been invisible had I not been alert for them. I make a mental note to check his legs when we go outside. A litany of reasons for those bruises present themselves as I try to avoid the one I don't want the answer to be.

We've been coached on the signs to watch for. Many of the children who come to the rec center are here because they've no place else to go. They come from families that can't afford daycare or other types of camps. Some of those families rest on nests of dynamite.

Carlton must sense something because he turns to look at me over his shoulder. In doing so, he hitches his shirt a little higher and the bruises slip out of sight. The deep sadness in his big brown eyes, however, can't be hidden under a T-shirt. I recognize it for what it is because sometimes I see it in my own eyes when I catch my reflection in the mirror.

His head back in the game, he levels an accusatory finger at Monica. "You didn't say Uno. Draw five cards, sucka!"

"Nuh-uh," Monica protests.

"He's right. You didn't say Uno." Mikaela jumps into the fray. "Draw five, draw five."

Monica, stubborn to the end, insists she said Uno, but the other children pick up the scent and begin to circle. "Miss Ellen. Tell them I said Uno," she says.

"I'm sorry, sweetie, but I didn't hear you say it, so I'm afraid you're going to have to draw the five cards."

With a loud groan and sidelong glare at Carlton, she takes her penalty cards. Carlton plays his card and the game continues drama-free for the next ten minutes.

"Uno!" Carlton yells in unison with Mikaela as he slaps down his second to last card.

"Draw five cards!" Mikaela says.

"Nope. I called it." Carlton wears a smug grin on his face.

"You were too late."

"Was not."

"Was too."

After a few more volleys in the was-not, was-too game, Carlton launches to his feet, breathing heavily. He growls out “was too,” draws back his fist, and punches Mikaela in the face.

"Carlton!" I rush in to separate them, but not before Mikaela unleashes a banshee-like howl that nearly has the windowpanes vibrating.

I pull the boy away. Procedure requires us to split up any fighting children and put the aggressor in a solitary activity away from the other child for the rest of the session.

"No! I wanna play Uno! I wanna play Uno! I was winning. Not fair!" He jumps up and down, stomping his feet onto the industrial carpet atop cement. His face turns an ugly shade, and as I take a firm hold of his skinny arm, he winces then kicks me in the shin.

I run limping after him. He breaks away, angling toward the exit.

"Somebody block the door!"

About the Author

Iris St. Clair is the pen name for a long-suffering cubicle worker by day, a Walter Mitty-like dreamer by night. (Her alter ego Tatiana Ivanadance also choreographs gravity-defying routines in those fantasies, but that's another bio.)

No matter what genre she writes, she prefers witty, insecure heroines and kind, persistent heroes able to break through to the gooey heart inside.

In high school she was voted most likely to win at Monopoly and Clue, but least likely to throw a ball anywhere near a target. Thank goodness writing requires less hand-eye coordination, punctuation errors notwithstanding.

Iris believes in the two-year "fish or cut bait" dating rule and has a 20+ year marriage and two teenaged sons as proof of concept. She lives, writes, dreams and dances in the rainy Portland, OR area.
