EXTENDED BLURBS

Linda Lael Miller on her story, INTERLUDE

http://www.lindalaelmiller.com

This never-before-published novella is a modern-day Western, featuring Cassidy McCullough, who has come home to the family ranch outside Busted Spur, Arizona to prepare for her upcoming wedding to–totally the wrong man.  Oh, Michael is nice enough.  He’s smart, successful, and good-looking.  Trouble is, he’s not G.W. Benton, the sexy and slightly older rancher who lives down the road from the McCullough place.  G.W. has a young son and a history of heartbreak, and, while Cassidy has known him all her life, and had a major crush on him when she was younger, well, she’s over all that.  Cassidy has made herself a life in Seattle, where Michael is awaiting her return, none too patiently, but, heck, Busted Spur is home.  So there’s the 411 on “Interlude”.  I can’t wait to hear what you think of it!

Steena Holmes on THE MEMORY JOURNAL

http://www.steenaholmes.com

Just when she thought it was safe to dream about a future again, Charlie Peters world came crashing down when she received word her sister was in the hospital. She left her fiancé in a small village in the Congo where they both work for Doctors Without Borders and rushed home to take care of her sister. She wants to believe that love will conquer all and all that other nonsense hopeless romantics believe, but can love overcome the lies she’s kept from Marcus about her past?  Charlie wasn’t meant for happily-ever-afters, even though Marcus was her Prince Charming.  This novella follows the story of Charlie Peters, sister of Diane in The Memory Child and is sure to touch your heart as The Memory Child did.

Nancy Naigle on SAND DOLLAR COVE

http://www.nancynaigle.com

Growing up, Elli Eversol spent nearly every summer in Sand Dollar Cove at her grandparents’ beach house, working at their shops on the old fishing pier. After a hurricane and a Nor’easter damage the pier and the shops nearly beyond repair, Elli returns to town to help rebuild. She even launches the Buy-A-Board campaign to raise funds for the plight. Holden Moore is back in Sand Dollar Cove, too. He broke Elli’s heart years ago, but he’s pulling every Romeo trick in the book to win her back now. Yet there’s more to Holden’s agenda, and it doesn’t include saving the pier.

Brody Rankin is eager to scout the location for his company’s new mega-warehouse near a quaint North Carolina beach town. The online request for handyman assistance for the Buy-A-Board campaign in Sand Dollar Cove gives him the perfect reason to head to the east coast, check out the area, and contribute to a good cause. He’d only have to leave half of his playboy-surfer lifestyle behind for a little while—there are plenty of waves in the Atlantic. But when he meets Elli Eversol, she really gets the surf up, and he’s tempted to toss his playboy ways out with the tide.

Rosalind James on JUST IN TIME (Escape to New Zealand)

http://www.rosalindjames.com

What happens in Vegas…

Will Tawera doesn’t do commitment, except on the rugby field. Moving to Las Vegas to become a kicker for the NFL would be a big change from New Zealand rugby, but then, he’s ready for a change. And when he’s asked to do a little modeling on the side? Thousands of dollars to hold a beautiful blonde while looking dark, dangerous, tattooed, and Maori? He could do that.

Faith Goodwin doesn’t do dark, dangerous men. Especially not when they make her laugh, take her miniature golfing with four-year-olds, and are far too sexy and sweet for comfort.  But when Will finds himself in hot water back in New Zealand, who’s he going to call? And who would be able to resist answering?

EXCERPTS

SAND DOLLAR COVE by Nancy Naigle

When Elli had first seen Brody she’d found him handsome in an outdoorsy, rugged sort of way, but tonight…he was disturbingly handsome with the moon making his skin shine.

Her hand slid down his arm, sweeping the water droplets from his skin. She could almost feel his thoughts.

His gaze focused on her lips and she wished he would just kiss her already. A sense of tingling anticipation swept through her.

A sensuous smile came to his lips, and then his mouth covered hers, brushing hers in a tantalizing invitation for more as he settled his hand on her hip.

All of the air expelled from her lungs in one wild gasp.

He planted taunting little kisses along her lips, her cheek, and then ever so softly to the crook of her neck. And those sent shimmers as bright as the stars coursing through her.

“I really like who you are, Elli Eversol.” He whispered into her ear. Then he straightened and gazed into her eyes.

Elli could feel the heat from his body so close to hers.

He leaned forward and dropped another kiss to her lips, then her nose, and then her forehead. “When I responded to your note on Facebook, this was the last thing I ever expected.”

“You’re just impressed by my skimboarding skills,” she teased, because if she didn’t she was liable to let this go a whole lot further than a first kiss should ever go.

“Oh, yeah. And so much more.” He sat up. “You ready to call it a night?”

She wasn’t. She had a million naughty thoughts running through her mind right now, but she sat up and let him help her up instead. They walked hand in hand over the dune and set their boards next to the house to dry.

His hand settled on the small of her back as they took the stairs up to the deck.

She paused at the front door. “I had the best time tonight.”

“You’re not the only one.” He glanced over his shoulder. “I’m going to sit out here for a while before turning in. Good night.” He kissed her on the neck. “I hope you have sweet dreams.”

She smiled and went inside, wishing with every step that the door might open behind her and he might follow her to her room.

JUST IN TIME (Escape to New Zealand) by Rosalind James

She choked back a laugh, then went on hastily at another glare from Calvin. “Ahem. There’ll be some shots lying down on a bed too, of course, tangled up in her, with your hand in her hair. Like that. You won’t be kissing her, because kissing doesn’t photograph well. You’ll be looking dark and dominant and broody, that’s all. Here.” She reached for a clipboard, came and stood next to him, flipped a page. “This is a partial shot list, just sketched out, but it should give you an idea.”

Her hair smelled good. Like flowers. She was leaning into him a little, holding out the clipboard. Wearing all her clothes, and not pretending anything at all. This situation was messing with his head. He made himself focus, ran a finger down the list, and came to a screaming stop near the bottom. “Bondage Shots? Shower shots? Spanking shots? Hang on.”

“It’s not real,” she said. “It’s all just suggestion. Very tasteful. You won’t even be in all of them, especially the bondage shots. It’s all about the girl, for those. Some shots of you holding her, at most, with her hands behind her back. You know the kind of thing. And as for the shower shots, you can wear a…a Speedo or something. And I won’t peek.” She was laughing at him again, he could tell. Or trying not to. Like he was funny.

WHEN WE TO By Brenda Novak (*Bonus* Harlequin Mira novella)

http://brendanovak.com

Shit. She’d gone too far. She’d merely wanted him to respect her as someone equally capable of making that choice. Instead he’d called her bluff. Suddenly feeling the need to backpedal, she searched for a good excuse. “I would, but...you’re not the right kind of guy for my first hook-up.”

“Are you kidding?” he said. “I’m the perfect guy. And I’m volunteering.”

“That’s kind of you, but...it wouldn’t be...smart.”

“Define smart.”

“We wouldn’t gel. We’re not...compatible.”

“Because...”

She swallowed hard. He knew he appealed to women, knew she was no exception. What would he accept that would allow her to save face? “I’d be a boring partner for a thrill-seeker like you.”

“That’s like saying you have to wash your hair,” he said flatly. “If you’re stepping up your game, you’re really going to have to do better.”

“It’s not as lame as you’re making it sound.”

“It’s worse. Face it. You’re all talk.”

“No, I’m not,” she said. “Think of the women you’ve been with. The variety. The experience. I’d be...meat and potatoes when you’re used to caviar.”

“Olivia?”

It wasn’t hot outside. As a matter of fact, it was a bit chilly. Yet she was sweating. “Yes?”

“Why don’t you let me decide what turns me on?”

JACKSON by Violet Duke

Leila walked over and held her hand out for Jackson to shake.

The casual, completely normal gesture had the same effect as a speeding bus barreling into him from out of the blue.

He wasn’t blind, he’d noticed that she was beautiful before—from a good twenty or thirty yards away.  Up close, however, he made the dangerous discovery that she was pretty, too.  It was a weird distinction he made that neither Bennett nor Donovan agreed with.  But for Jackson, ‘pretty’ was sometimes a bigger deal than beautiful, which in one way or another, all women were.

Prettiness was more personal, more affectionate.  Customizable.  While beauty could simply be admired, prettiness could almost always prompt a smile.

For Jackson, Leila was absolutely his kind of pretty.  Country girl cute with carnivorous curves that hinted at her preference of steak over salad, guileless eyes that he’d already seen could turn into a lethal glare when needed, and wholly reactive expressions so candid—when she allowed them to roam free on her face—that they seemed to feed directly from her heart.  Add to that, the fact that she was unknowingly, almost accidentally, sexy made her all the more unforgettable.

In a word, pretty.

Again, so much more than just beautiful.
